Following a rigorous 10-day theoretical intensive, students at Don Bosco Film School transitioned from the classroom to the film set to explore the technical nuances of Genre Filmmaking. The curriculum focused on the foundational principles of genre, analyzing how specific visual factors—such as lighting ratios, camera angles, and art direction—define the emotional language of a story.
The phase culminated in a mock overnight shoot conducted on the film school campus. Led by Mr. Arjun, Assistant Faculty in the Direction Department, the exercise was designed to demonstrate the stark differences between a standard production and a specialized genre shoot.
The Romance Demo
The chosen genre for the demonstration was Romance. Working through the night, students observed and assisted as Mr. Arjun translated theory into practice. Key learning outcomes included:
- Lighting & Ambience: Creating soft, intimate textures to build a romantic atmosphere.
- Visual Language: Utilizing specific camera angles to emphasize character connection.
- Art Direction: Transforming familiar campus locations into specialized genre environments.
Foundation for Future Productions
This hands-on experience served as a critical troubleshooting session, allowing students to resolve technical doubts before taking full creative control. In the coming weeks, the students will move into lead production roles, where they will be responsible for conceptualizing and shooting various genres with their own teams.
